Common Mistakes Made That Lead to the Wrong Career: Not Going to College

Reading is the Most Valuable Resource

I was reading an article in Forbes.com , about common mistakes made leading to the wrong career, and interesting enough in the top 5 were:
-Doing things just for money.
-Not networking enough. (College is the best place for early networking)

I completely agree.  Doing things for only money is my number 1 mistake. Out of personal experience I can tell you that making more money will not make you happy. I remember having a job that offered me a great secure biweekly check and I would cry in my car on the way. Once you start chasing your hearts desires, the money will follow. I posted a podcast about this that you may listen to here. Once I started pursuing my interest, money just flowed.

My number to mistake for others to avoid is not going to college. I think everyone should experience college. Technical, Community, or State, out of State. College is the best place for networking early because you are around so may people everyday and can exchange great ideas. Being around so many other people you will be exposed to things beyond your imagination. This is how you discover what you love, and what you are good at.

If I had to make my own list, here is my order:
-doing things for money
-not going to college
-not reading regularly ( My fave reads: Inc.com, Forbes.com, Ajc.com, Stumbleupon.com)
-not investing in continuing education
-not actively being thankful and humble for the things they have received.

Just my take.
